Safe, personalized fitness and nutrition support for individuals navigating cancer treatment and recovery.
“I am 8 years post treatment from Breast Cancer. His guidance on exercise is spot on and he always find ways to keep me motivated and safe. Dan’s care and expertise made a real difference in my recovery.” — A.E.
Cancer can quietly touch every part of your life, how you move, how you feel, and how you see yourself, and in these moments you don’t need intensity, you need calm guidance, clear structure, and steady support as a growing body of promising research (SEE BELOW) suggests that appropriate exercise can help manage treatment side effects, combat cancer-related fatigue, support function and quality of life, and may even play a role in improving long-term outcomes, and Dan has seen this firsthand, both as a specialist and as a husband who walked with his wife Sona through breast cancer in 2018, bringing that same understanding and care to every client navigating cancer treatment and recovery.
"I remember thinking: How do I help my wife feel like herself again? That question shapes every program I design.” — Dan
That’s the heart of Operation Forward Surge, a personalized cancer recovery program created for individuals navigating treatment and rebuilding strength, energy, and confidence in everyday life. This program doesn’t ask you to push harder. It helps you move forward, safely, steadily, and with intention, one step at a time.
Our cancer exercise program is designed to help you:
Cancer recovery is not a journey you need to navigate by yourself. You deserve support that understands your emotional and physical challenges. At OC Fitness Coach, that understanding is real, lived, and built into every session.
You can take the first step by completing a brief pre-consultation questionnaire, which helps Dan tailor your session so it feels like a relaxed conversation, not a clinical exam. He asks about your medical team, treatments, medications, surgeries (including lymph node removal), any devices like a port or PICC line, your energy, neuropathy, areas that feel unstable or “foreign,” what “feeling like yourself” means to you, and other questions specific to your unique situation.
During your first visit, Dan may guide you through a few gentle movements such as standing, reaching, and balancing, with no pressure or expectations. The goal isn’t to measure you, but to understand you, so he can create a safe, personalized starting point that feels supportive and grounding.
Cancer can change how you feel from week to week, even day to day, so your program stays flexible and evolves with you. Sessions may include scaled strength work, gentle mobility for post-surgical tightness, balance drills for neuropathy, lymphatic-friendly movement, port- or PICC-aware strategies, mastectomy-safe upper-body progressions, low-impact conditioning, or slow, restorative sessions on fatigue-heavy days. Dan’s approach is steady and intentional, with each movement chosen on purpose and each session building on the last, meeting you where you are so that, over time, even small steps add up to real, lasting confidence in your body.
Cancer treatment affects appetite, digestion, and energy, and Dan offers simple strategies to help stabilize daily energy through nutrition optimization, weight management support, meal strategies for fatigue-heavy days, muscle-building nutritional guidance, and non-prescriptive supplement education. These approaches can help support steadier energy between treatments, reduce nausea or queasiness for some people, make it easier to tolerate meals, and help limit unintentional muscle and weight loss. Drawing on his master’s degree in nutrition, he focuses on practical, sustainable adjustments that fit real life, not perfection. Clients often find that even small, nutrition-focused shifts make a meaningful difference, helping them feel more grounded, more capable, and better supported through the ups and downs of their treatment cycles.
The studio environment matters, especially when your care and energy can change quickly, and many clients want to avoid large, crowded gyms, especially if they are immunocompromised, and prefer to move without feeling watched or compared. At OC Fitness Coach, located by beautiful Lake Mission Viejo, all sessions take place in a quiet, private, mobility-friendly studio with easy parking and a low sensory load, not in a big public gym, and the plan stays flexible so your sessions can be adjusted as your treatment, energy, or safety needs change, giving you a calm, judgment-free place to breathe, move, and rebuild strength.
Every session, week, and month, we look for signs you are moving in the right direction, using each bit of progress to refine your path and keep you moving forward with purpose. For some, that means less pain, less anxiety, and more energy, for others it means feeling grounded, capable, and confident, being more physically fit, trusting their body, and having more space for a joyful life. Your program evolves with you, offering steady, realistic progress at the pace your body needs, with each session adjusted to match your current energy and mobility, and when helpful, Dan coordinates with your medical team so everything stays safe and aligned with your overall care.
Dan’s training is shaped by personal experience and clinical alignment. He is a CETI-Certified Cancer Exercise Specialist, an NFPT Certified Cancer Recovery Specialist, a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA, with additional professional memberships in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Men’s Health Fitness Council. Some of his professional credentials include:
Clients consistently say they feel safe—not just because of Dan’s expertise, but because he understands the emotional and physical realities of cancer recovery.
Recovery looks different for everyone. Some days feel steady, others uncertain. What matters most is having a safe, structured path forward — and someone who understands how to guide you along it. Operation Forward Surge was built for individuals who want clarity, support, and a pace that respects where they are today, not where they think they “should” be.

Cancer Survivor
I went through several different surgeries and procedures due to breast cancer treatment. My medication causes fatigue and I had to do something to make myself feel more confident and someone who will hold me accountable. I was referred to OC Fitness Coach and met with Dan. I immediately felt at ease as the studio is a calm and a non-intimidating environment. They put together a program for me that fits MY personal needs. They trained and showed me alternatives to ordinary exercises that will help strengthen my core without injury. They listened and built my confidence by getting me stronger with each session. I do a combination of stretching, balance, strength training and my favorite boxing. OCFC helped me “get out of my head” and connect with my body again.

This place changed my life. After a breast cancer diagnosis, surgery and treatment, I decided to focus on getting healthy – losing weight, getting stronger and building up my stamina. I was looking for a place where I didn’t feel judged but still held me accountable and pushed me to work harder. OC Fitness did just that. They pushed me beyond what I ever thought I could do. Their “always-present” motivation was just what this mama needed during this time in my life. They mixed up our exercise and weight routine so I never got bored and actually started to look forward to what he was going to introduce me to next. Thank you OC Fitness team!
